We have a broad range of activities in the UK, including innovative offshore wind projects, upstream operations on the continental shelf and delivering reliable piped natural gas. For decades we’ve enabled Norway to transform North Sea resources into vital energy; now we aim to be a leading energy company in UK waters.
At the moment we are developing Mariner, one of the largest upstream investments in the UK in the last 10 years. Mariner currently supports over 1,500 UK jobs in the hook up and commissioning phase of the project, and will create 700 long term positions over the lifetime of the project.
This year, imports from Norway equals approximately around 50% of UK domestic gas needs. This is enough to heat or power 8 million UK homes.
In 2017 the use of coal in the energy mix in the UK has dropped to its lowest levels since the early 19th Century. This would not be possible without gas and the significant development of renewable energy.
The UK is the location for a major part of our offshore wind portfolio, which includes Hywind Scotland, Sheringham Shoal, Dudgeon and Doggerbank wind farms.
Our UK offshore wind business is already delivering power to 650,000 UK homes.
The next major renewable project for Equinor in the UK is the gigantic Dogger Bank project. Once sanctioned and fully developed it will be one of the largest offshore wind farms in the world.
Equinor is the global leader in floating offshore wind and with Hywind Scotland, the world’s first floating wind farm, we’re unlocking the vast potential of floating offshore wind.
At Equinor we are committed to long term value creation in a low carbon future and helping shape the future of energy in the UK.
